At TAPC, our goal is to create a community to inform, inspire, and connect

Who We Are

We are building a community that harmonizes old and new paradigms of journalism and communication to elevate the African story in the motherland and in the Diaspora.

Africa, a continent of 54 countries and 1.3 billion people has often found itself in a hybrid situation – a struggle between the old and the new. This is evident in all spheres of life including the media and how we’re reported, how we tell our stories, and the impact on society. At no time has it been ever so important to build a better culture that is all-encompassing, with all forms and types of communication that reflects the incredible diversity that exists in our continent.

At The African Press Club (TAPC), our goal is to create a community to inform, inspire, and connect different voices in the continent and in the Diaspora. By so doing, we take hold of our narrative, redefine our existence, and reaffirm our relevance in contemporary times.

TAPC draws its membership from journalists, information managers, communication officers, and other individuals that are in the business of news, writing and storytelling. We publish informative articles written by these groups of people and edited by our team of journalists, as well as organizing activities relevant to our objectives.

TAPC aims to do the following:

  1. Stimulate partnership between African and African Diaspora journalists

  2. Provide media advocacy

  3. Support journalism students aspiring to build a career in the news industry

  4. Provide a platform for original and alternative African stories

  5. Back research on traditional forms of communication in Africa and storytelling

  6. Provide services to help journalists adapt to the demands of a rapidly changing profession

  7. Promote professionalism, best practices as well as career development

  8. Advance knowledge sharing, dialogue, exchange of information and research

  9. Facilitate discussion on challenges facing the industry within the continent

  10. Provide international exposure for members
